It is with a sense of profound sorrow that the Indian Public Health Association (IPHA) reports the sad demise of Dr. A K Sharma, Director-Professor, and Head, Department of Community Medicine, Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi.

A graduate (MBBS) from KGMC, Lucknow, and a postgraduate (MD) of JNMC, Aligarh, Dr. Sharma was an excellent teacher and was well-known for his clear cut and sharp conclusions. He was a fellow of IPHA and served as the joint secretary (North).

For the last two years he was suffering from carcinoma of the esophagus. He was such a strong-willed person that during this period of illness he continued to work and carried out all his teaching and administrative responsibilities. Finally, due to breathing difficulty he was admitted to the ICU for two weeks and passed away on 23 rd February, 2011.

May his soul rest in peace.
